If we don’t learn from our past, we are destined to repeat it

Will you help our country avoid repeating past mistakes?

There’s a saying along the lines of “those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Our government could be learning from the past of other countries as well as our own. Germany and France in the 19th and 20th Century had their own revolutions, and they were born from desperation. In my mind, it is what happens when those with money and power refuse to fund public infrastructure that helps benefit everyone. The more desperate people are, the more likely a violent figure can take power. I would hope our government learns from this before a next world war is born from the incompetence and narcissism of the rich. Refusing to look at what the rest of your country is going through, will leave you unable to help/react to the problems faced by the populace.

The government having to do programs like AmeriCorps or Peace Corps where they have to go to less fortunate communities would help teach them more empathy before being elected. We need politicians that put themselves out there to help the public good. Looking at your country through rose-tinted glasses solved nothing. You need to get down and get your hands dirty. Sacrifice is how our politics move forward.

AmeriCorps and Peace Corps teach team-building and other skills that help move the country forward. To work towards the betterment of the country and to recognize and perhaps help solve issues facing everyday people. The programs don’t pay much, but it teaches hard work, and humbles people. I was humbled from going through AmeriCorps.
